Gallura's Seabeds

The waters of the Bonifacio Strait and the La Maddalena archipelago hide an underwater world of extraordinary beauty:

  • Seagrass meadows (Posidonia oceanica): the plant symbol of the Mediterranean, an indicator of clean waters, is abundant along the Porto Pozzo coast
  • Granite caves and crevices: pink granite rocks create underwater labyrinths inhabited by groupers, moray eels and octopuses
  • Rich fauna: large groupers, barracuda, octopuses, sea urchins, lobsters, starfish, nudibranchs
  • Coralline meadows: among the richest biodiversity sites in the Mediterranean
  • Papa Reef (near Palau): vertical wall with red gorgonians
  • Spargi Wreck: Roman shipwreck from 1st century BC, archaeological site of interest
